SAXE ACCEPTS
REDUCED SENTENCE
BOSTON On January 17, 1977, lesbian radical-feminist Susan Saxe agreed to plead guilty to two counts of armed robbery and one count of manslaughter stemming from a bank robbery which occured in Brighton, Mass. on September 23, 1970. exchange, Saxe received a 12-14 year sentence. This sentence is to be served concurrently with the ten and two year sentences she received in Philadelphia for bank robbery and destruction of government property at the Newburyport Armory.
Saxe will become eligible for parole in six years. Consistent with her Philadelphia position of non-collaboration, Saxe again refused to testify against any other co-defendants, refused to talk about her life underground. and will continue to "refuse to cooperate in any way with the government."
In a statement to the straight press Saxe said, "I pled guilty for one reason and one reason only that it is the surest and quickest way to end the hold the state will have on my life and my personal freedom... I stress that this was not a 'deal.' ... I will never abandon my political commitments in exchange for favors from the system."

later sent to all gay and leftist press, Saxe said, "We who define ourselves politically, whether as feminists or radicals (or any of the labels attached to those politics) are responsible not only for the personal consequences of our acts, but for the political consequences.. awaking, We are and should be accountable to one another... In 1970 I did commit illegal armed actions aimed against property and wealth. These actions came from a sense of outrage against the injustices of sexism, racism and imperialism, and particularly the immediate and pressing crisis of the Vietnam War. Without getting into a complex discussion of the theoretical and tactical pros and cons of armed. struggle, I can still say that the politics that led me to those actions have not faded but ripened into a deeper commitment and understanding... I do not believe that the same criminals who perpetuate and profit from war, repression and exploitation have the right to judge and punish those who resist That is the fundamental principle upon which I hope anyone's support for me is based. I have never attempted to gain support in the movement or elsewhere on any other claim."
ROBERTS LEAVES AKRON MCC
AKRON Stan Roberts, the worship coordinator of the Akron Metropolitan Community Church, has resigned his position, effective February 1. Selected for the ministery at a San Jose, California Church, Roberts leaves a legacy of several productive years in Akron, frequently at a time when the MCC was the only gay activist organization in the city.
Newly elected Great Lakes District Coordinator Ken Martin (who replaced Beau McDaniels.
LULLABY
She has since moved to Washington) is expected to announce the appointment of a replacement soon. Martin's options include naming Cleveland MCC worship coordinator Dan Richmond as an acting minister for the Akron chapter or deferring any designations until all candidates have been interviewed.
It appears likely that the new MCC minister will not be from the Ohio area.
LAY your sleeping head, my Certainty, fidelity love,
Human on my faithless arm;. Time and fevers burn away Individual beauty from Thoughtful children, and the grave
Proves the child ephemeral: But in my arms till break of day Let the living creature lie, Mortal, guilty, but to me The entirely beautiful.
Soul and body have no bounds: To lovers as they lie upon Her tolerant enchanted slope In their ordinary swoon, Grave the vision Venus sends Of supernatural sympathy, Universal love and hope; While an abstract insight wakes Among the glaciers and the rocks The hermit's carnal ectasy.
On the stroke of midnight pass Like vibrations of a bell And fashionable madmen raise Their pedantic boring cry: Every farthing of the cost, All the dreaded cards foretell, Shall be paid, but from this night Not a whisper, not a thought, Not a kiss nor look be lost.
Beauty, midnight, vision dies: Let the winds of dawn that blow Softly round your dreaming head Such a day of welcome show Eye and knocking heart may bless,
Find our mortal world enough; Noons of dryness find you fed By the involuntary powers, Nights of insult let you pass Watched by every human loye. WYSTAN HUGH AUDEN
